- Sorting of most kinds of preference files is suppported.
- The Strip module's popup menu now allows you to open the Clipboard and applications that are inside of the System Folder.
- The Strip module now occupies less RAM than before (5118 bytes) because some code and strings now load when only needed (ex. the about box code.)
- Miscellaneous modifications like if the resources cannot be opened, the user will be notified with a dialog.
Updated Stuff (since 1.0):
- The Strip module now supports the dragging of files over just the Strip icon instead of the whole bar.
- Fonts that are copied or moved by this module are now activated without having to restart!
- All kinds of After Dark 3.0 files and some other miscellaneous extensions are now sorted.
- The events to open folders through the module's popup menu will now work if the front application does not support Apple Events.
- Fixed a small unreported File Sharing bug with copying files.
• About The Programs:
System Dropper comes in two forms which perform the same function: to easily move and copy files into the different System sub-folders based upon their file type. Besides the basic sorting that dropping files over the System Folder already does, System Dropper also moves the following kinds of files:
• Control Strips go into the Control Strip Modules folder.
• Applications, DAs, and any kind of alias file go into the Apple Menu Items folder (with an option to go into the Startup items folder.)
• Apple Scripts go into the Scripting Additions folder inside your Extensions folder.
• All kinds of After Dark 3.0 files are moved into their appropriate subfolders.
• Most kinds of preference files are moved into the Preferences folder.
Modifiers:
• SHIFT • Tells System Dropper to put the selected file(s) into their respective disabled sub-folder, creating one if necessary.
• Option • Will always copy the files, just like the Finder.
• Control • Put any files that would have gone into the Apple Menu Items folder into the Startup Items Folder.
Special Features:
• If one of the items dragged is a folder, System Dropper will sort out the items in the root of this folder and not touch the actual folder.
• Unlike dropping files over the System Folder, System Dropper shows no annoying dialogs. (Unless a file doesn’t belong in the System Folder.)
• Another bonus of moving and copying files with System Dropper is that if there is another file with the same name in the location that you are moving a file to, it will automatically be replaced. If this file is busy and cannot be deleted (such as the Finder, System, a background application, ect.) then it will be automatically moved to the Trash.
• Info On The Control Strip:
What is it?
This is a Control Strip module who's strip icon is pictured above. To use, simply put it into the Control Strip Modules folder and restart. If you do not have a Control Strip Modules folder (located in the root of your System folder) then you probably do not have the Control Strip control panel installed. Apple does not permit me to distribute Control Strip to other people (probably since it comes with System 7.5.) Desktop Macs can use Control Strip by modifying it with the Control Strip Patcher program that is widely available online (and on Skidperfect's www page listed above.)
You can obtain this extension from ftp.apple.com in dts/mac/sys.soft/extensions directory. Please don't ask me for this file or the Control Strip program since I am not allowed to distribute either of them.
Features:
• For drag-n-drop moving files to the System sub-folders you need to drag files and/or folders over the strip bar and let go of the mouse. You will notice that when System Dropper is processing files the Strip bar will be inverted and stay inverted until it is completely done.
• If you need to use any modifier keys, simply make sure that they are held down until you drop the file(s) over the strip bar.
• Clicking on the popup will show all the folders and the System file that reside inside the active System folder. Selecting an item will open it up, loading the Finder if necessary.
• You can also create the registration form and show an info box from the popup. Please spent a couple minutes and fill out the registration form (see Shareware Info below.)
• Note To "Hackers" and International Users:
• I have included the proper templates so that using ResEdit or a similar resource editing tool you can change the names of the disabled folders by editing the 'sdis' resources. While the basic System folders (Control Panels, Extensions, ect.) are recognized regardless of their name, the disabled folders have to be based upon the names in these resources.) Feel free to edit these names to your preferred language (and upload me a copy if you want future releases to contain these names.)
• You can add or remove the kinds of system extensions that are sorted into the Extensions folder by editing the 'sfld' resource. If you find any file types that my program does not support please write to me personally at ammon@cs.byu.edu and I will update System Dropper. Please include the type and creator of the file in the message.
• The name of the Scripting Additions folder can be changed by editing the only 'STR ' resource (but why?).
• The path of the different types of After Dark files are also 'STR ' resources.
• Shareware Info:
This program is Shareware which means that you should pay for it if you find it useful and use it for more than a week. I do not believe in programs that work for a small amount of time and then all of a sudden refuse to work until you pay the shareware fee. There are no exploding logic bombs or annoying "give me money now!" messages if you do not pay the requested fee. I have worked hard on this program and simply request that you do what you feel is right and pay the small fee because:
a) Receiving shareware fees encourages me to continue developing this program, ie. adding features which you request.
b) If you have an Internet address you can choose to have me send you the latest releases of this program.
c) It has taken a long time to develop this program and make it error free so please, if you play, please pay.
d) I'm a poor college student who needs to pay off loans. ’Nuf said.
Please fill out the registration form at your nearest convenience. Thank you for your support.
